In 1939, young actress Felicja (Barbara Krafftówna) was poised to make her Warsaw stage debut as Ophelia opposite the man she was infatuated with-pretentious actor Wiktor Rawiczile (Zbigniew Cybulski)-when the German tanks rolled in.
